What to Know About Requesting Public Information
The Northeast Texas Municipal Water District (NETMWD) is committed to transparency and compliance with the Texas Public Information Act (TPIA), Chapter 552 of the Texas Government Code.
The Public Information Act outlines your rights as a requestor, NETMWD’s responsibilities, and the procedures for requesting public records. Additional information regarding the Act is available in the Open Government – Public Information Act section of the Texas Attorney General’s website (hyperlink text: “Texas Attorney General – Public Information Act”).
Important Information About Public Records Requests
The Public Information Act does not require a governmental body to create new information, perform legal research, or answer questions or provide explanations. Requests must be for existing records.
NETMWD generally has 10 business days from the date a request is received to respond. Day one is the first business day after the request is received.
NETMWD reserves the right to withhold information that is exempt from disclosure under the Public Information Act or other applicable law.
If NETMWD seeks an exception to disclosure, the requestor will be notified, and the matter will be submitted to the Texas Attorney General’s Office for review, as required by law.

A written cost estimate will be provided for any request that is expected to meet or exceed this amount.
